The sideplates ensure the correct functioning of your daggerboard.
Daggerboard installation
The daggerboard can be installed in two ways:
– fixed position (by inserting the daggerboard pin into the hole marked with the letter A
– removable position (by sliding the rudder pin into the guide marked with the letter B.
Difference between a “fixed” and “removable” setup
The functionality remains the same. In both configurations, the rudder can be fully extended or retracted.
The main difference is that with the “removable” setup, the daggerboard can be taken out at the end of a session without using a screwdriver.
The fixed position is generally recommended for competitive use.
On the other hand, if the board needs to be transported often, you may want to consider the removable setup.
IMPORTANT: To avoid damaging the gasket lips and to ensure their efficiency and durability, never leave the rudder partially extended when the board is not in use.
Sideplates and Daggerboard optimal setup:
Having a daggerboard with minimal lateral movement when fully extended is very important for your board’s performance and for reducing stress on the gasket lips.
We recommend using Gorilla Tape to create spacers between the sideplates and the board.
Setup Tips:
The tape is approximately 5 cm wide and can be split longitudinally in half to create strips about 2.5 cm wide. Position the strips as indicated in the figure (areas in gray).
You can apply multiple layers of tape until you achieve optimal adjustment. The goal is to have a daggerboard with minimized lateral movement that is still not too difficult to maneuver during extension and retraction.
Installing and unistalling the sideplates
To uninstall the sideplates, simply realease the 4 screws and remove them from the board.
To install the sideplates:
– Fixed position: make sure to place the sideplates with the hole indicated with letter A toward the bow. With the sideplates not yet installed on the board, bring them close to the daggerboard so that the pin fits into hole A. Then, lower both the daggerboard and the sideplates into the board and tighten the four screws.
– Removable position: make sure to place the sideplates with the guide indicated with letter B toward the bow. Tighten the 4 screws. Insert and remove the daggerboard.
